Cool Tools
9th August 2009
I thought I would start a section for cool tools I use in my Armidale Web Design business. This isn't a latest, trendy, promotion thing. These are tools I use everyday and have found valuable and indespensible.
- Notepad++
- This is where the magic happens, this is the plain text editor that I type in each day. Nice and simple, nothing fancy.
- SmartFTP
- File Transfer Client, an essential task for web designers and an easy to use interface. It costs, but I am more than willing to pay, as they started out free and have an excellent product.
- Thunderbird
- Email client.
- SyncBack
- Essential equipment for file destroying computers. Backup, Backup, Backup. SyncBack makes this easy.
- GIMP
- Photos manipulation. Icon and image work.
- 500+ Colours
- This is where I start for the website palette, it is really just a beginning based on logo or photos, then I use Eric Meyer's blender below.
- Colour Blender
- I like this, because this is how a programmer thinks, brings artsy back to maths.
- Copy Paste Character
- A seemless way to deal with those annoying characters.
- Favikon
- Making those 16 * 16 pixel wonders that set your website apart.
- Firebug
- I use this to find out why the hell that pixel sliver is there.
